An energy audit of the Logansport Hospital facility identified five energy conservation measures. DAE recommended upgrading T12 with T8 fluorescent lamps and ballasts, power factor correction, night setback in select areas, window and motor replacements. The energy cost payback and return on investment to implement these measures are 4.1 years and 12.8%, respectively, which will result in an 8.0% reduction in energy costs.
Bloomington Hospital
DAE was responsible for multiple mechanical and plumbing remodel projects over an 8 year period. Projects included installation of heat reclaim incinerator, energy conservation related modifications to various air handling systems and chilled water plant.
St. Vincent Hospital
This project included electrical and mechanical design for new satellite hospital, to include surgeries, patient care, and an administrative area.
Michiana Community Hospital
DAE completed the mechanical and electrical renovation of the fourth floor ob/gyn/birthing rooms at this facility. This included design of specialized climate in limited available installation space.
Roudebush Veterans Administration Hospital
Chiller Plant Addition
This project provide for the addition of 2,400 tons of chiller capacity to the existing chiller plant. This included (2) 1,000 ton (4,460 volt), (1) 400 ton chiller (4,460 volt), an additional cooling tower cell, and new chiller and cooling tower pumps. A key facet of this project was the necessity to provide this additional chiller capacity in a manner that met hospital acoustical level standards.
Also, included with this project was the efficient integration of the staging of chillers for efficient use during part load operation.
Estimated cost of this project as $1.2 million, but actual cost came in significantly under the estimate due to creative use of Victaulic piping connections suggested by Design-Aire Engineering, Inc. (DAE) for Phase I installation that was mostly reusable under the subsequent Phase II installation designed by DAE.

Energy Audit
In an energy audit for this 438,072 square foot hospital, 4 ECMs were chosen. Included in the study were fluorescent lamp and ballast replacement and variable speed chilled water pumping. Our calculations demonstrated a savings of $40,455 per year, or about a 16.9% ROI achieved in 5.9 years. Resulting from our energy audit, Home Hospital chose DAE to upgrade their 1,000-ton chilled water system to a primary/secondary system incorporating 2 variable speed 125-hp secondary pumps.
Indiana Historical Society
An energy audit of the Historical Society Building identified ten energy conservation measures. DAE recommended night set-back, limiting steam demand, lower minimum variable air volume box set-points, time clocks for exhaust fans, reducing outside air, lighting upgrades, vending machine set-back timers, occupancy sensors in offices, restrooms and mechanical rooms, condensate heat and water recovery. The energy cost payback and return on investment to implement these measures are 1.4 years and 69.2% respectively, which will result in a 20.9% reduction in energy costs.
Indiana State Library – South Building (Energy Audit)
An energy audit of the South Building identified eleven energy conservation measures. DAE recommended generating chilled water on-site, night setback, limiting steam efficiency motors, lighting upgrades, occupancy sensors in restrooms and offices, and power factor correction. The energy cost payback and return on investment to implement these measures are 3.8 years and 26.1%, respectively, which resulted in a 28.8% reduction in energy costs. Indiana Government Center, North
An energy audit of the Indiana Government Center, North identified ten energy conservation measures. DAE recommended implementing light switch timers, limiting steam demand, energy management system upgrades, balance air distribution system, variable speed drives for exhaust fans & air handler units, restroom occupancy sensors, lighting upgrades, high efficiency motors, and power factor correction. The energy cost payback and return on investment to implement these measures are 2.8 years and 35.1%, respectively, which result in a 41.2% reduction in energy costs.
