This project provided an additional 2,400 tons of cooling to the existing chilled water plant that included two 1,000 ton, 4460 volt chillers and replacement of chiller and cooling tower pumps. Also included were modifications to the existing controls sequence to optimize chiller operation.

An energy audit of the VNA Hospice Center in July, 2003 identified an energy conservation measure consisting of an upgrade of the existing temperature control system with a direct digital temperature control system. The energy cost payback and return on investment to implement these measures are 1.9 years and 52.6%, respectively, which will result in a 32.2% reduction in energy costs.

An energy audit of the Methodist Medical South facility in March, 2004 identified six energy conservation measures. DAE recommended shutdown of select exhaust fans, modifying boiler operating schedule, upgrading incandescent with compact fluorescent light bulbs, changing constant volume to variable air volume system, occupancy sensors in select rooms, and power factor correction. The energy cost payback and return on investment to implement these measures are 2.6 years and 38.5%, respectively, which will result in a 28.3% reduction in energy costs.

An energy audit of the St. Francis Hospital facility in May, 2004 identified three energy conservation measures. DAE recommended increasing heat exchanger capacity, a small boiler, and upgrading T12 with T8 fluorescent lamps and ballasts. The energy cost payback and return on investment to implement these measures are 3.7 years and 27.0%, respectively, which will result in a 13.5% reduction in energy costs.
