Project Profiles - Energy

Blackford County High School

Hartford City, Indiana

An energy audit conducted at this 158,000 square foot high school focused on 6 Energy Conservation Measures (ECM). Among those studied were VAV reheat system conversion, exhaust fan duty cycling, door vestibules, lighting reduction, swimming pool heat reclaim climate control system, and replacement of 450-ton chiller. Resulting implementation of the recommended ECMs reduced the electric bill for this all electric school over 19%, or $55,000 per year.

As a Certified Energy Auditor for the State of Indiana, DAE successfully petitioned the Department of Energy for a matching grant for Blackford County High School. Following the grant award, DAE helped the high school with several additional mechanical upgrade projects, such as chilled water system upgrades and VAV revisions to the HVAC.

Turkey Run State Park

Marshall, Indiana

DAE assisted our client in identifying energy conservation and environmental protection ideas for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). The certification included heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, lighting, water conservation, and alternative fuels. Total project cost was $250,000.

Home Hospital

Lafayette, Indiana

In an energy audit for this 438,072 square foot hospital, four energy conservation measures were chosen. Included in the study were fluorescent lamp and ballast replacement, and variable speed chilled water pumping. Our calculations demonstrated a savings of $40,455 per year, or about a 16.9% ROI achieved in 5.9 years.

Resulting from our energy audit, Home Hospital chose DAE to upgrade their 1,000-ton chilled water system to a primary/secondary system incorporating 2 variable speed 125-hp secondary pumps.

Jasper County Public Library

Demotte Branch, DeMotte, IN

DAE identified, implemented, and evaluated problems with energy conservation measures to upgrade the client’s lighting, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems. Total project cost was $88,000.
